Qatar Ends Temporary Entry Visa Extension Policy from June 7, 2026

Qatar's Ministry of Interior (MOI) confirmed that the temporary extension mechanism applied to all categories of entry visas will officially end on Sunday, June 7, 2026, restoring standard immigration procedures suspended earlier this year. The temporary measure was introduced on February 28, 2026, in response to regional airspace disruptions triggered by escalating tensions involving Iran, which prevented scheduled departures and left a large number of travelers, business visitors, and expatriates legally stranded inside the country. Under the policy, the MOI granted automatic rolling one-month extensions free of charge to all entry visa categories through its electronic systems. From June 7, normal procedures resume in full. Visa holders must comply with the original validity periods and fee structures applicable to their visa type. Affected categories include short-term visitors, business travelers on work entry visas awaiting conversion to residence permits, long-stay visitors, and dependants of expatriate residents. Individuals whose visas expire on or after June 7 are advised to initiate renewal procedures in advance, apply for an extension through official MOI channels if eligible, or arrange timely departure to avoid overstay penalties. Companies employing foreign workers or hosting business visitors should audit current visa statuses and plan accordingly. The MOI e-services portal (portal.moi.gov.qa) provides the appropriate channels for extension requests and renewals.
